Lifting Specialist (Crane and Rigging Specialist)

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

• Lifting coordination and control: Coordinate lifting activities with construction, engineering, HSE, equipment teams, subcontractors and the client. Schedule and monitor lifting equipment and personnel to support safe execution of the work.
• Lift planning: Prepare or review lift plans, method statements and risk assessments within the assigned scope of authority. Verify that required technical reviews and approvals are completed before work starts.
• Technical verification: Check load weight, centre of gravity, lifting points, crane configuration, load charts, operating radius, boom length, rigging arrangement and lifting accessory capacities against the proposed operation.
• Site readiness: Coordinate verification of ground bearing capacity, crane standing areas, outrigger or crawler support, access routes, obstructions, overhead services and exclusion zones before equipment is positioned.
• Complex lifting operations: Provide specialist oversight for critical, tandem and other complex lifts. Confirm that competence, responsibilities, communications arrangements and contingency measures are clearly defined.
• Equipment assurance: Verify that cranes, lifting appliances and accessories have valid inspection and examination records, identification and certification. Ensure defective, damaged or uncertified equipment is removed from service.
• Personnel competency: Verify the competency, training, certification and authorization of crane operators, lifting supervisors, riggers and slinders. Ensure personnel understand their assigned duties and approved lifting arrangements.
• Safe execution: Coordinate permits to work and simultaneous operations, conduct pre-lift briefings and monitor site conditions. Stop lifting activities when conditions are unsafe or the approved plan cannot be followed; require reassessment before resumption.
• Field monitoring: Carry out inspections and lifting audits, identify unsafe practices, monitor corrective actions and escalate unresolved technical or safety concerns to management.
• Records and reporting: Maintain lift plans, lifting equipment registers, competency records, inspection reports and related documentation. Report lifting performance, incidents and near misses, and support investigations and lessons learned.
